Although in a stable condition, the Namibian cross-country cyclist Michelle Vorster is recuperating after she was struck by a car on the Western Bypass on Saturday morning.

Vorster was cycling in the yellow line next to her husband Johan, towards the Brakwater turnoff towards Windhoek, when the accident occurred.

“I heard a massive explosion on my right. Michelle landed on me and we fell to the left on the tar and ended in the gravel,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

While he feared the worst, she began reacting a few seconds later.

“Her body is in tact, including lungs, back, neck and head. Her right arm is broken as well as a small bone in the ankle,” he wrote. “Praise God for protecting her in that moment,” Vorster continued, thanking everyone who stepped in to help.

She underwent surgery at 18:00 on Saturday.

Messages of a speedy recovery flooded the Namibian athlete’s social media pages.
