Agra Weaner Championship Series launched

This year’s edition of the Agra Weaner Champion Series takes place in its modern format for the 11th time, with 21 auctions scheduled between 21 June and 15 September.
These auctions are held across Namibia from Karasburg to Grootfontein, and this year there are also four brand new auction points included, namely Talismanus, Okanjatu, Okakarara and Aminius.
These auctions are held in an effort to promote the development of up-and-coming farmers in the communal areas. The aim is to provide these communities with additional capacity building during the auctions, while rewarding the top producers.
The annual Agra Weaner Championship Series not only allows the company to reward producers for their weaner quality, but the auctions also serve as a critical cashflow stimulus for many cattle farmers. Furthermore, the series allows producers to measure their production standards and management practises to that of their peers at a national level.
Judging criteria is standardised to avoid bias, as animals are entered into one of the following competition categories: Feedlot Potential (Tollies), Field Potential (Tollies), or Breeding Potential (Heifers). There are prizes to reward our buyers for the highest amount spent during the series, as well as the largest total number of animals bought during the series.
This year three national winners will be awarded – one for each of the three production categories.
In the past, producers competed against each other across categories for a single title of National Champion. During the series, prizes are awarded at each auction. The regional winners, as well as the overall champions will be crowned at the annual gala event in October.
The Agra Weaner Championship Series is an inclusive and nationally representative competition that showcases Namibian production quality. To win, requires commitment, as well as excellent farming and management practices.
Agra thanks its official event partners for their continued support. They are Bank Windhoek, Santam, Sanlam, Feedmaster, Indongo Toyota, Hino Indongo, Agribank, Vivo Shell, Africa Commercial Vehicles, Total Energy, Namibia Breweries – Hansa Draught, MSD, and Corporate Guarantee.
