The Omaheke Agri-Food Confex is scheduled to take place in Gobabis from 28 to 30 July at the Lagare stadium.
Included in the event, is a conference on Investing in Agriculture for food and improved nutrition.
According to Dr Jorry Kaurivi of the Ministry of Agriculture, this is part of the process to graduate from the calamities and problems like the drought and Covid. “The ongoing wars in Europe also have an impact on the food resource and we need to move towards food processing and food production,” he said.
The Omaheke Regional Council has taken hands with the World Food Program of the United Nations to create this conference. “This event will serve as a platform for an efficient and cost effective communication channel to showcase the products and produce as well as services currently available.”
Kaurivi said that the conference aims to share knowledge on the value of nutrition to implement initiatives and to investigate secure market access. “We need to facilitate the role players in the agricultural value chain, which is currently lacking, especially in the Omahake region.”
Visitors can also sit in on panel discussions on specific challenges in the industry of food production faced in Namibia. Workshops and training sessions will be hosted for those who want more knowledge and skills upliftment.
Demonstrations on technologies will also been available during the conference. “One of the demonstrations will focus on how to process milk into various products so that our own products can enter the market,” he said.
