N$1.17m injection for RuralRevive Initiative
The Capricorn Foundation is taking its commitment to community development a step further by investing an additional N$1.17 million into the RuralRevive Initiative in Maltahöhe.This investment will support two key areas: horticulture and waste management. It’s a move that highlights the foundation’s dedication to boosting economic growth and improving the lives of those in rural Namibia.
RuralRevive is part of the Wolwedans Foundation’s Vision 2030 – The AridEden Project, which aims to build a circular economy and create long-term entrepreneurial and employment opportunities around Maltahöhe. The project focuses on five key areas: Commerce, community, conservation, culture, and consciousness.
Having been the first local corporate donor to get involved, the Capricorn Foundation initially pledged N$1 million in the 2023/2024 financial year. With this new contribution, the foundation’s total investment in the initiative has now surpassed N$2.1 million.
Strengthening local food systems
The horticulture work package is all about supporting local farmers. With new facilities like the RuralRevive Campus and a fresh Trading Hub, local farmers will get the help they need to grow food, gain new skills, and connect with markets. Every two weeks, there will be open markets to sell fresh produce and educate the community about food preservation. The Foundation is also building a training facility near Maltahöhe to teach sustainable farming practices.
Waste management for a cleaner future
The waste management work package focuses on improving waste collection and recycling in the region. New recycling centres in Maltahöhe and Mariental will help sort and transport waste, while community members will be paid for collecting recyclables. Rent-A-Drum is also involved, offering training and raising awareness about the importance of recycling.
Capricorn Foundation Executive Officer Marlize Horn said, “We’re excited to deepen our support for RuralRevive. This project is a fantastic example of how collaboration can lead to meaningful, lasting change. We’re proud to play our part in helping build a more resilient and sustainable economy in Namibia’s desert regions.”
Stephan Brückner, Chairman of the Wolwedans Foundation, also expressed his gratitude, saying, “With Capricorn Foundation’s continued support, we’re bringing our vision to life and creating a more inclusive, self-sustaining desert economy. We hope other Namibian companies will join us in this journey.”
