Ansua Hammeslaght’s journey from pageantry to leadership

Staff Reporter

In a world where pageantry is often associated with beauty, glamour, and the pursuit of a crown, Ansua Hammeslaght’s journey tells a much deeper story. Ansua Hammeslaght has turned her experiences on some of the world’s biggest pageant stages into a journey of resilience, service, and leadership. Today, she is stepping into a new chapter as Head of Bid at Green Enterprise Solutions (Green), bringing with her the same determination and discipline that carried her through her pageant years.

But her journey did not begin in the boardroom.

A journey that started with a dream

Hammeslaght’s pageant journey began in 2014 when she represented Namibia at the Miss Globe competition in China, where she was awarded Miss Personality and nominated for Best New Country. In 2015, she was First Runner-Up at the Out of Africa Queen competition in South Africa and received the Business Queen Award. She was named Queen of Hope Namibia in 2016, a title that reflected her passion for using her platform to inspire positive change.

In 2022, she represented Namibia at Miss Universe in Bulgaria, where she was crowned Miss Universe Bravery Award. Her journey reinforced her belief that the true value of a crown lies in how you use the platform it provides.

More than a crown

Throughout her years in pageantry, Hammeslaght has remained passionate about empowering others, particularly women, while celebrating Namibian culture, heritage and identity.

Her journey was made possible with the support and sponsorship of Green, which helped her represent Namibia on international platforms. That support became part of a journey that would eventually come full circle.

“I carry with me a wealth of experience, dedication and passion for empowering others,” Hammeslaght reflects. “Throughout my journey in pageantry, I have consistently represented my country with grace and pride.”

The lessons she gained along the way would prove valuable far beyond the stage.

From the runway to the boardroom

While many may know Ansua for her achievements in pageantry, her professional journey has been quietly building alongside it. She holds a diploma in Business Administration and continues to pursue her bachelor’s in business administration. Hammeslaght has spent years developing her skills within the ICT and procurement sectors.

At Green, she has worked across different teams and engaged with a wide range of clients and suppliers. Each experience added another layer to her professional development. She immersed herself in tender management, sales, company secretarial work, and business development. She also gained valuable experience navigating government procurement requirements, statutory compliance, and complex documentation processes. Her role in preparing tender and RFQ submissions required precision and discipline. From interpreting requirements to ensuring compliance and meeting deadlines, attention to detail became one of her greatest strengths. Those experiences have now positioned her for her latest challenge.

A new crown of responsibility

As Head of Bid at Green, Hammeslaght is taking on a role that demands strategic thinking, precision, and strong leadership. In many ways, the transition from pageant stage to boardroom is not as unexpected as it may seem. Both require preparation. Both require confidence. And both demand the ability to remain composed under pressure. The qualities that helped her navigate international competitions now form part of the professional foundation she brings to her leadership role.

Her story is therefore not simply about moving from pageants into corporate leadership. It is about how one chapter can prepare you for the next. The crowns may have changed, but the purpose remains. For Ansua, the spotlight is no longer centered on a stage. It now shines on the work she can do, the teams she can lead and the impact she can make. As she takes the helm as Head of Bid, she is proving that resilience, courage and leadership are qualities that never go out of fashion.
