Doek Awards announce judges, commissioned artists

The 2023 Bank Windhoek Doek Literary Awards has announced its judging panel and commissioned artists.
The panel of judges consist of Dr Nelson Mlambo, Natasha Uys, and Namafu Amutse, all esteemed literary professionals and enthusiasts from Namibia. They bring vast experience to the adjudication process and are dedicated to recognizing and rewarding Namibian literary artists in various categories, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art.
The commissioned artists for this year's Awards are Clara Mupopiwa and Erik Schnack.
Each edition of the Bank Windhoek Doek Literary Awards revolves around a specific theme, which is then translated into unique trophies awarded to the winning literary artists.
Dr Mlambo holds degrees in literature and communication from various universities and is a Senior Lecturer at UNAM, specializing in African literature. Natasha Uys is a writer and editor with a deep love for books, and Namafu Amutse is a multidisciplinary artist excelling in photography, film direction, and writing.
Clara Mupopiwa is an award-winning designer and educator with a passion for African design aesthetics. She mentors young creatives and is committed to skills transfer and mentorship in the design industry. Erik Schnack is an accomplished artist whose works span various mediums, including sculpture, graphic art, animation, and installation art.
The Bank Windhoek Doek Literary Awards celebrate the works of four Namibian literary artists published in Doek! Literary Magazine, aiming to foster a strong literary community in Namibia and attract a broader national and international audience to these remarkable literary works and artists.
