Exhibition celebrates World Wildlife Day
The Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) and the Ricoveri Art Collection are taking hands with the Sustainable Wildlife Management Program (SWM) community conservation project to host the exhibition “Lost in the Wild” as of tomorrow. This is in celebration of World Wildlife Day which is commemorated on 3 March.
The artworks depicting Namibian and Ugandan fauna are the handiwork of Joseph 'Ntensibe, a freelance artist from Uganda who specialises in painting, sculpture and batik work. The exhibition centres around the batik art that 'Ntensibe created especially for the Ricoveri collection of African art in the 1990s. His batiks are treated as single works of art. Each of them is unique and drawn by the artist.
'Ntensibe's work is mainly inspired by nature. He portrays it with care and understanding and his landscapes and animals are said to often have an almost "magical" appearance. This exhibition also gives all Namibians who are interested in art the opportunity to be exposed to the work of an artist from another African country and at the same time to the rich culture and traditions of this wonderful continent.
The exhibition opens at 19:00 at the FNCC on Thursday and entrance is free of charge.
Lost in the Wild can be viewed until 11 March.
