Film Week kicks off

The annual Namibian Film Week returns after a two-year hiatus to draw in local audiences to celebrate the beauty of cinematic art with filmmakers and industry professionals.
The four-day event hosted by the Namibia Film Commission (NFC) from 26 to 29 November is described as a cinematic extravaganza, showcasing shorts, features and documentaries all produced by Namibians.
In the past, the event ran parallel to the Namibia Theatre and Film Awards (NTFAs), however the awards have been postponed indefinitely and thus the Film Week will run independently.
The aim is to avail a platform to showcase new and local films, create an appetite for local film productions, and influence how people perceive the world through film.
The public will be treated to a wide range of genres, film formats and lengths throughout the four nights.
The week opens with “Ompata”, a high-tempo film by Nino Pequeno followed by an exciting medley of short films the following night and a feast of documentaries on the 28th. The week ends with a comedy feature length film by veteran filmmaker Vickson Hangula, “Zula Boyz” and a celebratory performance by the OYO Dance Troupe on 29 October 2022.
The films will be screened at different venues across Windhoek, offering a rare cinema experience for the community in a glorious outdoor setting.
The movies all start at 19:30 and are screened at the following venues:
• 26 & 29 October 2022: Lemon Tree Restaurant
• 27 October 2022: Katutura Community Arts Centre
• 28 October 2022: City of Windhoek, New Building, Upper Parking
Entrance is free and so is the popcorn, so don’t miss out!
