Okahandja informal settlement kids dive into a day of joy
Children from an informal settlement in Okahandja traded their dusty streets for colour, laughter and splashing water as they enjoyed an unforgettable day at the Adventure Land amusement park. The organisers had planned for 60 children, but the number quickly rose to more than 100. They did not hesitate - the more children, the more joy, and the louder the laughter.
Among the excited voices was Daisy Hamases, who shared that it was her first time visiting a swimming pool. She said she was simply grateful for the chance to splash around and enjoy a day filled with magical moments.
The fun did not stop at the water. Each child also received a food parcel, adding to the gratitude and excitement of the day. For children like Daivian Mujazu, the outing was nothing short of extraordinary. “I come from an area without water or electricity, and such opportunities never reach us. All I can really say is thank you,” she said.
Adventure Land’s management, who preferred to remain unnamed, expressed their delight at seeing the children so happy: “The joy and the beaming faces of the children tell their own story.” Plans are already underway for another fun day, this time for children from other settlements.
Deon Booysen, an Adventure Land employee, offered thanks to the Heavenly Father for the beautiful day and to park owners Roland and Clayton Jacobs, who made the event possible. Friends of the organisers also contributed quietly and generously by providing food and drinks.
To keep the joy going, Adventure Land plans to offer half-price entry for children during the week - a gesture aimed at helping parents who cannot always afford full prices but still want their children to have fun.
