Paying tribute to a musical legend

Renowned Namibian musician and performer Ras Sheehama's extraordinary journey spanning over three decades is set to be commemorated in a collaborative masterpiece this coming weekend.
Since the 1990s, Sheehama has been a trailblazer in the Namibian music scene, blending reggae, Afro-fusion, and traditional Namibian musical elements into a unique and captivating style.
Visionary creative director and filmmaker Othilia Tutu Mungoba, in collaboration with musical curator Christian Polloni, present "Ras Sheehama - 3 Decades of Sound", a visual documentation and musical extravaganza paying homage to the artist's illustrious career.
The event features an impressive line-up of local talents from diverse artistic backgrounds, promising an unforgettable journey through Sheehama's musical legacy. From the innovative remixes of DJ Kboz to the soulful melodies of Big Ben, and the dynamic performances of Sally Boss Madam and Exit, the stage will be illuminated by the likes of ML Musik, Ethnix, Patrick Sikiliza, North Side Rabbi, Equipped Dance Academy, and Vocal Redemption.
Attendees can expect an immersive experience encompassing dance, captivating poetry, mesmerising music video inserts, and exhilarating live band performances. Adding to the event's allure is visual artist Hage Mukwendje, whose innovative newspaper collage style encapsulates Sheehama's contribution to Namibian music. The artwork will be showcased at the event and auctioned off, providing patrons with an opportunity to own a piece of art in memory of the legendary musician. Ten per cent of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to a community soup kitchen that Sheehama has supported for the past three years.
Scheduled for 5 and 6 April at the Nampower Convention Centre, the event will be streamed live for those unable to attend in person. Tickets are available at Webtickets Namibia, starting at N$150.
