People of Song connects Windhoek and Berlin on stage
As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the twinning agreement between Windhoek and Berlin, the world premiere of the play "People of Song: Unpacking an Untold Story" took place at National Theatre on Friday and Saturday, uniting Namibian and German artists on stage.The premiere was part of a series of cultural encounters celebrating the exchange and friendship between the two cities. Among the guests were numerous well-known personalities, including a delegation from Berlin with mayor Kai Wegner.
More than 40 representatives from the German capital travelled to Windhoek to celebrate the quarter century anniversary.
People of Song was developed between artists from both cities. The play explores themes of memory, identity and cultural connection and is inspired by the complex relationship between Namibia and Germany.
Following its premiere in Windhoek, the production will also be shown in Berlin.
The performance was an emotional highlight of the anniversary week, which also included art exhibitions, panel discussions, and encounters between young creatives from both countries.
