Namib Zone dominates ||Kharas championships
The Namib Zone emerged as the standout performer at the ||Kharas Regional Athletics Championships, recently concluded at the J. Stephanus Stadium in Keetmanshoop.
The two-day championship, which brought together athletes from across the region, saw them deliver strong performances across both junior and senior categories as schools competed for top honours and national team selection.
In the senior division, Delano Appolus of the Sahara Zone was crowned Victor Lodurum (best senior boy), while Johanna Shipanga of the Namib Zone claimed the Victorix Lodurum title as the top senior girl.
The junior category saw Alejandro Manka of the Namib Zone take the Victor Lodurum title for boys, with Roswitha Rooi of the Kalahari Zone named Victress Lodurum as the best junior girl.
The Namib Zone, made up of schools from Lüderitz, Rosh Pinah, Aus and Oranjemund, was crowned the best-performing zone overall, as it dominated multiple events.
The championships also served as a key selection platform, with 50 athletes chosen to represent the ||Kharas region at the Namibia School Sport Union National Athletics Championships scheduled for April.
The event attracted strong community support, with sponsors including First National Bank (FNB) Keetmanshoop, Namdeb and Oranjemund Spar contributing to its success.
