Update: Nust
UPDATE: The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) has confirmed that 150 students were enrolled in its 2025 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences intake, the largest cohort since the programme began in 2008.
Nust says the “size of the cohort placed significant pressure on the practical training capacity required for the programme, particularly regarding work-integrated learning (WIL)”.
They further added: “This placed additional strain on available training placements, laboratory facilities and professional supervision. Medical Laboratory Sciences is a professional programme that requires students to receive appropriate practical training in accordance with regulatory requirements from the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA).”
Nust says 50 students have been selected for placement, while 55 cannot progress due to capacity constraints, with the university exploring placements at universities in the SADC region. A further 20 students who do not meet admission requirements will be considered for other Nust programmes in January 2027, while 48 students with outstanding modules must clear them before progressing.
Nust also confirmed that no new cohort was admitted in 2026 and applications remain closed for 2027.
