Cargo bikes for entrepreneurs

Fifteen small entrepreneurs were announced as winners of the cargo bikes competition that the City of Windhoek ran in March this year.
The winners were announced during an event held at Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre in the capital earlier this week. The beneficiaries will use the cargo bikes as a means of affordable transport to deliver their goods and get to their customers.
Speaking at the handover, Windhoek deputy mayor councillor Joseph Uapingene said the cargo bikes will assist the entrepreneurs in curbing transportation costs and provide them access to customers, new markets, and new opportunities.
“I am informed that one cargo bike allows the rider to carry loads of up to 75 kg on their bicycles. This means traders can now move around with their products in search of customers and new markets, whilst on the go,” he said.
The beneficiaries will attend a three-day business skills development programme by SMEs Compete this week to help them gain skills on how to run a business effectively and refine their business models before getting their cargo bikes.
The cargo bikes initiative was funded and supported through the smart partnership between the City of Windhoek and the City of Bremen in Germany. The cargo bikes were manufactured by Namibian company Suncycles which is based at the Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre.
