CRAN hosts regional preparatory workshop, CRASA postal committee meeting
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) is hosting the joint Regional Preparatory Workshop and Postal Committee Meeting of the Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) in Windhoek until tomorrow.The three-day event brings together regional regulators, industry stakeholders, development partners and agencies committed to advancing the postal sector and strengthening regional cooperation.
Welcoming delegates to the capital, CRAN chief executive Emilia Nghikembua, emphasised Namibia’s commitment to collaboration and progress. “It is an immense privilege for CRAN to host this important event in Windhoek. We value the ongoing support and engagement of all participants, whether in person or virtually, as we work together to strengthen our regional postal networks,” she said.
Critical role
The postal sector continues to play a critical role in economic development, facilitating trade, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and expanding financial inclusion through innovative logistics and digital solutions.
In the digital era, postal networks increasingly integrate with e-commerce, cross-border trade, and last-mile delivery services, ensuring the secure and reliable movement of goods, information, and value across borders.
Nghikembua noted that CRAN’s mandate goes beyond licensing and enforcement. “We are committed to fostering an environment that stimulates investment, encourages innovation, and protects consumer interests. The convergence of information and communication technology (ICT) with postal services provides the digital backbone for efficient, secure, and inclusive postal networks,” she said.
Collaboration
The regulator also stressed the importance of regional collaboration to address challenges such as cross-border processes, regulatory harmonisation, interoperability, and capacity building. Participation in CRASA allows CRAN to share best practices, align standards, and develop common approaches that reduce trade barriers and support sustainable growth across Southern Africa.
The event serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, policy discussion, and strategic planning, reinforcing Namibia’s position as an active participant in shaping the region’s postal and communications landscape.
