NIDA works towards creating 35 000 jobs
The Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA) has set an ambitious goal to create 35 000 jobs over the next five years as part of its efforts to support Namibia’s industrialisation agenda. This target is outlined in NIDA’s newly launched Turnaround Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) 2025/26–2029/30 and accompanying Sustainable Business Model. The agency says these frameworks are designed to enhance, promote, facilitate and manage industrial development nationwide.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement breakfast held recently, NIDA chief executive Richwell Lukonga said the event marked a key moment in bringing the strategy to life. “The event brought together institutions from both Namibia and South Africa, including banks and financial organisations, providing a platform to present our ISBP and Sustainable Business Model,” he said. “From that engagement, we’ve received numerous offers for partnerships aligned with our strategic goals.”
The ISBP was developed by Ombu Capital with support from GIZ, through the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises. The Sustainable Business Model was created by Monasa Advisory & Associates.
Lukonga added that the plan is not intended to remain a document on a shelf, but rather a roadmap to real and sustainable change within the agency. One of the current focus areas is revenue generation through rent collection from NIDA-managed properties nationwide, part of a broader goal to become financially self-sustaining.
NIDA’s chief financial officer Julius Nghikevali, emphasised the importance of the ISBP in meeting national development objectives. “The ISBP represents a defining moment for NIDA. It is a deliberate commitment to transformation and will guide efforts in improving operational efficiency, building capacity and promoting industrialisation as we work towards Vision 2030,” he said.
He also highlighted the agency’s plan to engage the public through ongoing education and awareness campaigns to ensure transparency and accountability; key values that NIDA aims to uphold.
As NIDA embarks on this new chapter, it remains committed to revitalising its operations and forming strategic partnerships to stimulate economic growth and employment opportunities in Namibia.
