OneUpTwo: Namibia’s first home-grown streaming platform launches
Namibia’s broadcasting landscape entered a new era last week with the launch of OneUpTwo, a home-grown digital TV and streaming platform designed to elevate and centralise Namibian stories. Developed by Emeraldsand Platforms (ESP), the service has been introduced as “Namibia’s very own digital TV platform, built for the people, by the people,” signalling a decisive shift towards local content ownership and digital independence.Speaking at the launch, Richard Botha, executive director of Network Data Hub (NDH), said OneUpTwo was built to give Namibian narratives the prominence they lack on global platforms. He noted that although local videos circulate on social media, they often become lost among unrelated content.
“This is a streaming platform purely based on Namibian stories,” he said. “Everything becomes vague and far-fetched elsewhere, but here we can truly showcase what we have and what we can do.”
Botha highlighted that OneUpTwo offers multiple channels, including NTV Namibia, NTV Afrikaans, NTV MyZone, alongside a growing selection of Africa-wide channels. The platform reaches an estimated 200 million people annually, demonstrating its potential impact across the continent. He emphasised that OneUpTwo goes beyond typical streaming services by giving viewers control over how and when they engage with content, and providing creators with a dedicated platform to showcase high-quality Namibian productions. He encouraged audiences to explore the platform to experience Namibian stories in a way that is structured, authentic, and accessible anytime, anywhere.
Hennie Geldenhuys, director of Synergi Namibia, one of ESP’s key partners, said the platform’s strength lies not only in technology but in the ecosystem built around it. He described it as a privilege to be associated with OneUpTwo’s rollout, citing Synergi’s nationwide media access, event presence, and continent-wide reach.
“Our job is connecting people; showing clients’ work through the media assets we manage,” he said, crediting creative teams for bringing visual impact that strengthens campaigns on the platform.
Geldenhuys emphasised that shifting consumer behaviour makes OneUpTwo particularly timely: “Prime time has changed to my time. I want to engage with content when I want to engage with it, and that is what makes OneUpTwo so powerful.”
He concluded by unveiling Synergi’s exclusive elite partnership package, offered first to attendees, marking OneUpTwo’s strategic push to unite local content creators, brands and audiences under one digital home.
