MIT warns against scammers

The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT) said that the application for and issuance of Import, Export, Rebates and Transit permits is free of charge.
This statement follows the ministry noticing that there are individuals, agents or groups misleading the public and charging them for the application and issuance of MIT permits.
"The public is urged to report any activities related to payment for the application and issuance of permits to the executive director at 061 283 7332 or [email protected] before taking any action that is likely to bear risks," the ministry said in a media statement.
According to the statement, the MIT through the IMEX sub-division is responsible for the monitoring and implementation of compliance with the Import and Export Control Act of 1994 which provides for import and export control of goods in Namibia. The Act requires every importer or exporter whose goods are subject to licensing to first obtain an import or export permit before importing into or exporting out of Namibia.
