Neighbourhood Watches: Apply for assistance now
Old Mutual Namibia through its Foundation announced its commitment to further support community crime prevention initiatives through an additional investment in the Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) programme.Old Mutual's commitment to community crime prevention initiatives started in 2015 through a partnership with the City Police for the Community Games. This support continued in 2018 with the Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Association of Namibia. This was done in collaboration with the Namibian Police Force to identify, develop and train newly registered Neighbourhood Watches in Namibia with the material and equipment they need to strengthen their crime prevention efforts in their communities.
"Personal safety and security matters to everyone, and as an established Namibian brand, we have an invested interest in safeguarding our communities," said Old Mutual’s Mignon du Preez. "We are pleased to announce an additional investment in the NHW programme to provide material and equipment to support crime prevention efforts in communities."
From 2018 to 2022, Old Mutual Namibia invested over N$650 000 towards the Neighbourhood Watch programme by purchasing CCTV cameras, razor-mesh fencing, uniforms, chargeable flashlights, entrance boards and magnetic stickers all sourced from local suppliers. This benefitted members of the various Neighbourhood Watches in the capital city.
To provide more support, five previous beneficiaries of the Old Mutual Neighbourhood Watch programme as well as five non-registered Neighbourhood Watches (NHW) or Community Policing Groups (CPG) are invited to apply for funding for equipment sponsorship to the value of N$10 000 (registered) and N$20 000 (non-registered).
How to apply
To apply, previous beneficiaries need to submit a one-page on how Old Mutual Namibia's previous sponsorship assisted their NHW and why they need more support. They also need to agree to mentor one non-registered NHW/CPG and provide full names and contact details of governing members. For non-registered NHWs or CPGs, they need to provide a one-pager on why Old Mutual Namibia should support them to register and provide their governing members' names and contact details.
