Celebrating 35 years of German-Namibian friendship
German Weeks continue
The annual German Weeks 2025, held under the theme “35 Years German-Namibian Friendship”, continues this month with a diverse programme of cultural, educational and musical events scheduled between 15 September and 10 October.During the week of 21 to 27 September, the public can look forward to a variety of activities hosted by schools, universities and cultural organisations across the country.
The week begins on 23 September with “Let’s Celebrate – It’s Spring!”, an exclusive house concert organised by the German Embassy in cooperation with young musicians from the Swakopmunder Musikwoche. This event is by invitation only.
Also on 23 September, the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) will host a Quiz Night – “Kennen Sie Deutschland?” at its auditorium in Church Street, starting at 18:00. Teams of three to five participants can test their knowledge about Germany, with entry set at N$100 per group. The event is open to all ages.
On 25 September, the DHPS will present its annual school concert “Über den Wolken – Beyond the Horizon”. The performance will showcase the talents of the school’s orchestra, choir, woodwind ensemble and music groups. The concert begins at 19:00 at DHPS, with free entry although donations are welcome. Refreshments will be on sale.
The following day, 26 September, students from the University of Namibia’s German Language Department will take part in a Kulturpunkte excursion to Krumhuk. The trip will provide an opportunity to explore aspects of German history and language in Namibia.
Closing the week’s programme, the Horst-Krefft-Lesefest will be held on 27 September at the Privatschule Otavi. Organised by the AGDS (Arbeits- und Fördergemeinschaft Deutscher Schulvereine), the event will see learners from AGDS member schools demonstrate their read-aloud skills in German, with prizes on offer for top performers. The festival starts at 09:00 and will be conducted in German.
German Weeks 2025 continues until 10 October, offering an engaging platform for celebrating cultural exchange, education, and the long-standing friendship between Namibia and Germany.
