Kapana cook-off piping hot this year

Nedbank Namibia officially launched its annual Kapana Cook-Off to promote entrepreneurship throughout Namibia last week.
The event, now in its eighth year, starts on 28 May with a coastal round in Swakopmund, followed by a central round in Windhoek on 11 June, before moving to Ongwediva on 25 June for the northern round.
According to Nedbank’s Communications and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge, the competition has enabled winners to become business owners in their own right over the years. “Winners have the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and employers. Former competition winners have gone on to start their own businesses with their food trucks, and have even hired Namibians to work from their mobile food trucks,” she said.
The final takes place at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair on 27 August 2022, where the winner will go home with a mobile kapana kitchen, along with a Nedbank account with N$10 000 and a Bakpro voucher worth N$5 000.
Kaulinge said that to date, the bank has invested more than N$3 million in hosting this flagship national competition that supports small businesses and celebrates Namibian cuisine.
At the launch last week, various media houses competed against each other, with the Namibian Sun team being crowned the 2022 Media Kapana Kings, while Napa won the Best Dressed/Team Spirit prize.
The competition is co-hosted by Bakpro and the Namibia Chefs Association, with Agra joining as a sponsor this year.
