The National Information Workers Association of Namibia (NIWAN) has joined forces with the Ministry of Education and the National Archives of Namibia, in collaboration with Mindsinaction, to introduce the Namibian Archival Application.
This cutting-edge digital platform is designed to revolutionise public access to historical records from diverse archival institutions in Namibia. Generously sponsored by the Namibia National Commission for UNESCO with N$380 000, the app is set to officially launch on 24 January 2024, at the National Archives of Namibia.
The primary goal of the app is to facilitate easy access to archival information from various institutions, showcasing the rich documentary heritage preserved across the country. Accessible on smart devices, the app provides seamless entry to catalogues and finding aids of different archival institutions.
This inclusive approach ensures that individuals from various sectors, including researchers, historians, educators, and the general public, can intuitively and efficiently explore and engage with Namibia's cultural heritage.
Developed by the innovative Mindsinaction team, the app boasts advanced search functionality, allowing users to quickly and accurately locate specific documents and make convenient bookings. The user-friendly interface ensures that both novice and experienced researchers can navigate the application effortlessly.
NIWAN views the app as a significant leap forward in making historical information more accessible and engaging for all. The launch marks a crucial milestone in association’s commitment to supporting the preservation of Namibia’s cultural heritage and fostering a deeper understanding of the shared past.
