WIS celebrates International Day

A celebration of food, culture, diversity and community
Windhoek International School (WIS) hosting its International Day on Saturday (13 April 2024) at their Campus in Pioneerspark from 14:30.
International Day is a renowned event on Windhoek’s annual calendar, earmarked since 1990 as a celebration of diversity through food and culture.
Each grade in the school represents a country and sets up a stand selling food items and games related to the selected country. The students prepare special performances commemorating cultural elements or dances from their chosen country.
The event promises a day filled with music, food, dance and fun activities in celebration of countries from around the world.
“International Day is an opportunity for WIS families and the local community to connect and learn more about other countries, which are very often also represented among our student body,” says Ethan van Drunen, Educational Director at WIS. “At WIS we value the creation of a sense of belonging for every student. In celebrating International Day, we foster better understanding, respect and pride for diverse cultures.”
The event starts with a lively parade of all grades and their parents from Namibia and around 40 other countries. Live music, dance performances, and a variety of foods and dishes, create a whirlwind tour around the world for all attendees without having to leave the city of Windhoek.
“On behalf of the board, students, parents and teachers, I would like to invite the public and friends of WIS to come out and enjoy International Day with us. We look forward to hosting another fun-filled and successful event,” Van Drunen concluded.
