Namibian mountain biking prodigy Roger Surén is expected to return to serious competition at Rock & Rut Series’s XC1 race held at Towerbos west of Windhoek on Saturday.

Surén has been solely focused on his high-performance training schedule in anticipation of joining up with European professional team Alpecin-Premier Tech who he recent signed with.

Missing out on local competitions in the last few weekends may have been frustrating, but the 18-year-old will be among the attractions to Saturday’s event.

Under the auspices of the UCI Continental MTB Series and the Namibian Cycling Federation, a strong South African team will be here to compete for UCI points on offer in the Olympic cross-country format – led by champion racers like Candice Lill and current African title holder Michael Foster.

Races start at 09:00 and 09:45 for the younger and older non-UCI categories.

Women’s elite and U23 race starts 11:50 (five laps; roughly 75 minutes).

Men’s elite and U23 race starts 14:30 (seven laps; roughly 80 minutes).
