A weekend of language, culture and adventure!

Workshops for German learners
Earlier this month, fifty students from Deutsche Höhere Privatschule, Delta Secondary School, and Namib High School spent an unforgettable weekend at the desert oasis of Goanikontes, preparing for the German Language Diploma (DSD) in the coming year.
Over two full days, they fully immersed themselves in the German language and culture, enjoying a mix of learning, creativity, and adventure.
The workshops were jointly organised by the three schools, the German Language Department at the University of Namibia (UNAM), and the German Embassy in Windhoek, with support from the Federal Republic of Germany.
The seminar offered a whirlwind of activities designed to develop German skills in a fun, practical way. Students danced, cooked, created, played sports and celebrated together, all while using German throughout.
A particular highlight was an early-morning hike to the historic Weitzenberg ruins, the site of a German farmhouse destroyed by a flood in 1917 - a fascinating glimpse into Namibia’s German heritage.
The German Embassy in Windhoek extends its thanks to the volunteers, the Goanikontes team and everyone who contributed to the event’s success. This memorable weekend was a perfect reminder of the power of language, culture, and collaboration, leaving participants inspired and connected.
