Capricorn Foundation supports school leaders through leadership training

The Capricorn Foundation has renewed its partnership with the African Leadership Institute (ALI) through a donation of N$480,000.00 to support the second cohort of 29 principals and school leaders pursuing a two-year Certificate in Transformational Leadership. The Capricorn Foundation first partnered with ALI in 2024, contributing N$480,000.00 to support the initial cohort of 19 principals and department heads, who have since completed the course. To date, the Foundation has supported 48 school leaders and invested a total of N$960,000.00 in the project. Marlize Horn, Executive Director of the Capricorn Foundation, said: “The Capricorn Foundation is committed to supporting leadership training as part of our Education Focus Area. As Connectors of Positive Change, we believe that investing in education extends beyond learners; it is equally vital to empower school leaders to reach their full potential. By doing so, we create a ripple effect that positively impacts the lives of the Namibian child.” ALI is a Namibian non-profit organisation dedicated to equipping and developing leaders to transform Africa. Its vision is to bring transformation to Namibia and the continent by inspiring individuals to lead change, solve challenges and become beacons of hope. The Certificate in Transformational Leadership is an NQA-accredited programme that aims to equip leaders to improve learner outcomes and strengthen school management. It provides participants with the resilience, vision and skills needed to drive sustainable transformation within the education sector. Each participant graduates with a detailed, written action plan aimed at delivering positive change in Namibia’s education system. Dr Chrisna von Gericke-Fourie, COO and Training Manager at the African Leadership Institute, noted: “At ALI, we inspire and enable leaders to drive powerful transformation in their personal lives, in their relationships at work and at home, in their performance in the workplace and within their communities. We equip and develop leaders with soft hearts, tough minds, upright character and skilful hands to transform Africa. We develop leaders who are brave enough to address needs, yet humble in doing so.” Mr David Mushaandja, Principal of Ekulo Senior Secondary School in the Oshikoto Region, said: “As a result of the ALI training, together with all my staff and school board members, we developed High-Level Statements for the school—our Vision, Mission, Core Values, Mandate and Motto. All our actions have since been geared towards achieving these. The academic performance of the school has improved and, in 2024, Ekulo was ranked eighth nationally in the Grade 11 external examinations and ninth in the Grade 12 external examinations among public schools. Regionally, we ranked second for Grade 11 results and first for Grade 12 results.” The Capricorn Foundation is a Section 21 company and a registered welfare organisation in Namibia. Established by the Capricorn Group in February 2020, the Foundation is celebrating five years of positive change in Namibia, having invested over N$45 million through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and projects. The Foundation extends its gratitude to Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Asset Management and Entrepo for their continued support in funding these life-changing initiatives.
