Eight schools selected for 2025 Chair and Desk Initiative

The Old Mutual Foundation has announced the eight beneficiary schools for the 2025 edition of its Chair and Desk Initiative, which aims to improve classroom conditions in underserved Namibian communities.
This year’s beneficiaries were chosen through an open application process for schools in the Kavango East, Kavango West, Hardap and Khomas regions. The programme, launched in 2023, provides new or repaired classroom furniture to help address shortages affecting learning environments.
Since its launch, the initiative has supported thousands of learners, complementing the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture’s efforts to deliver inclusive, quality education.
In the Kavango East Region, Dr Joseph Diescho Primary School will receive 100 new chairs and desks, while Ngcangcana Senior Primary will have 100 chairs and desks repaired. In Kavango West, Hausiku Wakina Primary School will receive 100 new chairs and desks, and Mururani Combined School will have 100 repaired. In the Hardap Region, Klein-Aub Resource School will receive 100 new chairs and desks, while Edward Frederick Primary School will have 100 repaired. In the Khomas Region, Tobias Hainyeko Primary School will receive 100 new chairs and desks, and Hillside Primary School will have 100 repaired.
Mignon du Preez, Old Mutual’s Group Marketing, Public Affairs and Sustainability Executive, said the project was about more than just providing furniture.
“Every learner deserves a seat at the table of opportunity,” she said. “By investing in school furniture, we are restoring dignity, improving focus and inspiring dreams. Together with our partners and communities, we are building a brighter future, one desk at a time.”
The foundation thanked all schools that applied and reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Namibian learners through sustainable, high-impact interventions.
