A one-day workshop highlighting the importance of German language skills for future academic and professional opportunities took place at von Bach Dam on 10 October 2026, bringing together 45 students learning German as a foreign language from schools from Windhoek, Swakopmund, Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo. The event was organized by the German Embassy Windhoek, the German Studies Department of the University of Namibia, the Goethe-Institut Namibia as well as teachers from the participating schools. It aimed to demonstrate the value of German language proficiency for students’ future career paths and to highlight the opportunities that knowledge of German can offer in both the Namibian and German economies.

In addition to gaining insights into the academic and professional opportunities available to German speakers, students had the opportunity to exchange ideas with their peers and learn more about the role of German in an increasingly interconnected world. The workshop forms part of the broader commitment by the German Embassy Windhoek to promoting German language education in Namibia and strengthening connections between students, educational institutions and the business community. In particular, it seeks to engage learners at Namibia’s 9 schools, which are part of the global initiative “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH).

By highlighting the practical benefits of learning German and fostering connections between young people, the initiative aims to encourage students to consider German as a valuable asset for their future academic and professional development.
