Hydroponics project launched at DHPS
Based on an initiative by an alumna of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS), contact was established between the school and SeGeNa e.V. (Social-ecological association for the promotion of the German-Namibian cooperation). The first joint project is now proudly displayed in the DHPS school garden: A hydroponic plant that will not only supply the cafeteria with fresh vegetables and herbs but also raise awareness about the regional production of healthy food and the importance of sustainable projects among scholars.
The plant was financed by donations by SeGeNa and installed by a Namibian company.
True to the DHPS mission statement, sustainability is essential at the school. The persons involved in the project come from throughout the school community: Members of the “Green Science DHPS – Sustainable” group, the school canteen and the boarding school, as well as the school management and the administration, who will all be involved in the maintenance of the newly created hydroponic system.
