The Windhoek Fire Brigade Services successfully hosted the Blaze Buster Quiz on 28 March at the City of Windhoek Council Chambers, bringing together 22 secondary schools in a spirited test of fire safety knowledge. Proudly sponsored by Vivo Energy, the event aimed to promote fire prevention awareness among learners in an engaging and interactive format. Windhoek Technical High School emerged as the overall winner, taking home the grand prize of N$5,000, while each learner in the winning team received N$1,000.

Chairman Mao Zedong High School secured second place, with learners receiving N$750 each, followed by A. Shipena Secondary School in third place (N$500 per learner) and Jan Jonker Afrikaner High School in fourth (N$250 per learner).

In recognition of their support, teachers were each presented with a battery-operated smoke detector an essential device that provides early warning in the event of a fire, allowing for quick evacuation and emergency response. The Blaze Buster 2026 initiative is designed to equip learners with vital fire safety knowledge, encourage proactive behaviour, and strengthen community engagement between schools and the Fire Brigade. The competition also fosters teamwork and collaboration among participants.

The quiz demonstrated the value of fire safety awareness while making learning both fun and impactful. All participants were commended for their enthusiasm and commitment.
