Literary donation to National Library

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recently donated literary works to the National Library of Namibia valued at around N$20 000.
The donation, made by Ambassador Omar Berroteran Paredes, consists of Venezuelan short stories, the Constitution of Venezuela, memoirs and other valuable reading resources depicting culture, economy and tourism attractions in that country.
The donation was received by Gerard Vries of the education ministry.
The donation will strengthen the mandate of the National Library, which is to support education and research through access to national and international information resources amongst its other roles of collecting and preserving the nation’s published intellectual heritage through legal deposits and book purchases.
The library is further mandated with the facilitation of allocating International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSN) and International Serial Book Numbers (ISBN) to individuals and publishers/producers in the country.
This donation enables researchers to gain a better understanding of the Venezuelan culture to foster a greater appreciation of their diversity.
Speaking at the event, Paredes said that the donation was presented in commemoration of the birth of the Venezuelan writer, philosopher, poet, translator, essayist, educator, politician and diplomat Andrés Bello.
This donation adds to the other recently received donations made to the library from different institutions such as the Embassy of Japan, the Embassy of Türkiye, various book stores and individuals.
