The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has launched the country’s first Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management Sciences, marking a significant milestone in postgraduate education.

Offered through the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business (HPGSB), the programme makes NUST the only institution in Namibia to provide doctoral-level training in Management Sciences. It addresses the national need for advanced, locally grounded research to inform leadership practice, public policy and sustainable economic growth.

The PhD enables candidates to specialise in areas such as Project Management, Leadership and Change Management, Risk Management, and Management Information Systems. Through rigorous, research-driven training, the programme aims to strengthen Namibia’s capacity for evidence-based decision-making, innovation and digital transformation.

Professor Sulaiman Olusegun Atiku, Director of Research at HPGSB and Programme Coordinator, said the introduction of the PhD reflects both institutional growth and national responsibility.

“This programme is designed to develop scholars and senior practitioners who can produce high-impact research aligned with Namibia’s development priorities. By advancing management research locally, we are strengthening leadership capacity, enhancing human capital competitiveness, and contributing to sustainable and ethical socio-economic development,” he said.

The programme is aimed at academics, senior executives, consultants and mid-career professionals in both the public and private sectors seeking to combine scholarly expertise with practical application. It also expands NUST’s doctoral portfolio and reinforces its role in applied, policy-relevant research.

Aligned with Vision 2030, the Sixth National Development Plan and Agenda 2063, the PhD supports national priorities in human capital development for Industry 5.0 and beyond.

Applicants must hold a recognised Master’s qualification at NQF Level 9 (or equivalent), demonstrate completion of a supervised Master’s research project, and submit the required documentation, including a draft research concept note. Applications close on Friday, 27 February 2026.
