Swakop Uranium Foundation invests in Keetmanshoop schools
Education in the ǁKharas Region has received a significant boost following contributions from the Swakop Uranium Foundation, with more than N$600 000 invested in improving learning and living conditions at two local schools.
On Tuesday, Minna Sachs Primary School marked the official opening of its new computer laboratory, made possible through a donation of 20 computers and a printer valued at more than N$350 000. The facility now houses 28 computers, following an earlier contribution of eight machines from the Keetmanshoop Municipality.
The lab was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Gaudentia Kröhne, who highlighted the importance of digital literacy in modern education. Stakeholders described the initiative as a step towards bridging the digital divide in the region, equipping learners with essential technological skills.
A day earlier, on Monday, Suiderlig Secondary School also benefited from the foundation’s support, receiving N$250 000 for the repair of its hostel facilities and the completion of a boundary wall. The funding had been pledged during the school’s gala dinner on 1 August 2025 and was formally handed over at a ceremony attended by local officials.
The investment is expected to improve living conditions for hostel residents, while the boundary wall will enhance safety and security for the school’s approximately 820 learners.
The Swakop Uranium Foundation said its contributions form part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education through targeted community investment, addressing both academic resources and learner welfare.
As the region continues to prioritise education as a key pillar of development, partnerships between the private sector and local institutions are expected to play an important role in shaping opportunities for Namibia’s youth.
