Young learners shine in environmental quiz

Fourteen primary schools from the Khomas Region put their knowledge to the test at the Primary Schools Quiz 2025, hosted by the School Environment Clubs (SEC) Namibia at Pioneerspark Primary School.
Centred on the theme “Protecting what sustains us: food, water, environment, energy and life,” the event aimed to boost environmental literacy among young learners. Five pupils from each school took part, with support from Namdeb Diamond Corporation (NAMDEB), the Namibian Chamber of Environment (NCE) and the Ministry of Education. Namibia Dairies and Klein Windhoek Spar sponsored refreshments.
NAMDEB CEO Riaan Burger, delivering the keynote, said communities must value both people and the environment to ensure sustainable progress, while NCE Secretary General Ottilie Fillipus urged learners to keep dreaming, stay curious and recognise the importance of agriculture and environmental protection.
The competition showcased impressive talent and teamwork. Suiderhof Primary took first place among mainstream schools, followed by People’s Primary, Tobias Hainyeko Primary, Delta School Windhoek and host school Pioneerspark Primary. In the resource schools category, Môreson Special School emerged as champion, with Dagbreek Resource School in second place.
The quiz highlighted the role of schools and young people in shaping a greener future. SEC Namibia said it will continue building platforms for environmental learning and announced that the next milestone will be the 2026 High School Environmental Debate.
