Crossroads Distribution Namibia announced the switch to Euro5 trucks from Scania. This decision is an important step in the company's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and adopting environmentally friendly practices in the transportation sector.
The trucks use an additive lubricant that is mixed into the fuel and helps minimize emissions.
Scania Namibia delivered seven Euro5, G450 6x4 trucks to Crossroads Distribution, which uses the trucks purchased for almost N$20 million to transport fuel for Total Energy throughout Namibia.
Johan Van Zyl, Crossroads Depot Manager, emphasised that the importance of Crossroads Distribution's shift to lower carbon emissions cannot be overstated.
“As global concerns about climate change grow, all industries are under pressure to adopt greener technologies and practices. The transportation sector, which is a major contributor to carbon emissions, plays a key role in this transition," Van Zyl said, adding, "These new trucks are equipped with advanced emissions control technologies that significantly reduce pollutant emissions into the atmosphere compared to older models."
