Almost 50 rhinos poached in six months

Forty-seven rhinos have been poached in Namibia this year, of which 32 carcasses have been found in the Etosha National Park.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of the Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Romeo Muyunda, 33 black rhinos and 14 white rhinos have been poached.
"Of the 47 rhinos poached so far this year, in addition to the 32 in Etosha, eight black rhinos were poached on farms under the rhino conservation project, six rhinos on private farms and one in the Kunene region," Muyunda said yesterday.
Less than a month ago on 13 May, the ministry's official poaching figure stood at 38 rhinos.
Muyunda also confirmed that one elephant was poached in the Kavango East region. – [email protected]
