Namibia will participate in the prestigious Italian Macfrut trade fair, where it will showcase the country's diverse range of export fruits such as grapes, dates and citrus.
According to the Namibian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the fair starts on 8 May in Rimini and will last three days.
Another of Namibia's export hits, blueberries, will also be presented alongside pomegranates. Namibia's grapes from the Orange River not only stand out for their sweet taste, but can also successfully compete against competition from other countries in the southern hemisphere because they ripen faster and are available earlier in Europe and Asia. Namibia will also showcase a selection of high quality vegetables.
Namibia does not have an embassy in Italy, but is represented by Ambassador Albertus Aochamub at the embassy in Paris. Also present are, among others, representatives of the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and the Agriculture Council of Namibia, as well as the Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA).
The non-governmental organisation Youth in Agriculture (YIA) will also be in Rimini.
At Macfrut 2024, Namibia is aiming at attracting investors for projects in the Zambezi region as well as for dates and grapes that are to be grown at Aussenkehr in the //Kharas region. In addition to presenting its premium products at the Namibia stand, the Namibian delegation would like to use the trade fair in Italy as a platform for networking and building partnerships with international buyers, traders and investors, Aochamub said.
