Tourism Expo kicks off today

The numbers that have become clear in the run-up to this year's Tourism Expo, which takes place from today to Saturday, are not only impressive but also say a lot about the character of the event.
More than 100 exhibitors representing over 1 600 hotels, lodges and rest camps are participating, while Fly Namibia's presence offer visitors access to more than 100 destinations worldwide.
Not only has the hospitality sector developed various special offers, but First National Bank Namibia (FNB) and Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) - through massive financial support - will enable visitors to qualify for one of 250 vouchers, each worth N$1 000, by participating in various expo activities.
Back in September, FNB marketing manager Tracy Eagles and NBL executive officer Marco Wenk expressed their delight at financially supporting the Namibian public through their participation in this tourism initiative. Now the time has come and vouchers to the tune of N$250 000 will be awarded.
Eat, drink and be merry
During the event that takes place at the SKW in Olympia, more than 30 types of wine, gin, whisky, vodka and sparkling wine as well as beers can be sampled. Additionally, visitors can feast on a range of 100 foodstuffs at various stands.
In keeping with the modern information age, all expo-related happenings will be permanently reflected on 16 Instagram hotspots – every moment of every hour. This will make visitors aware of events they might not have noticed otherwise.
Meanwhile, nine automotive brands showcase 33 of their vehicles, and five musicians and music groups provide entertainment during the late afternoons and evenings.
Highlights
There are two highlights on Saturday morning: As soon as gates open, visitors can meet representatives of the local animal welfare association, SPCA Windhoek, at the main tent and possibly get their hands on a dog, with 10 furry friends hoping to find forever homes.
Immediately thereafter, Republikein’s Bridal Couple of the Year will be crowned. The show can be followed live via social media.
Gates open at 14:00 today and the expo will officially be launched at 15:00. Gates close at 20:00 and the entertainment continues until 22:00. Tomorrow and on Saturday gates open at 10:00.
