Full throttle ahead

WIKA celebrates platinum anniversary
The Windhoek Karneval (WIKA), sponsored by the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, is set to ignite Windhoek for ten days with an explosion of colour, music and tradition as it celebrates an incredible milestone – 70 years of bringing joy to the hearts of Namibians and visitors alike.
This year's theme translated into English is “Applause, Applause, Full Throttle Ahead”, encapsulates the spirit of joy and exhilaration that WIKA promises to deliver. From pulsating performances by international acts to showcasing the vibrant culture of Namibia, WIKA 2024 is shaping up to be an unforgettable extravaganza.
“As a company rooted in Namibia's rich cultural heritage, the O&L Group is proud to support WIKA,” O&L Group Executive Chairman, Sven Thieme, said.
“WIKA's 70-year tradition of bringing together diverse communities, celebrating freedom of speech, and fostering unity resonates deeply with our commitment to creating meaningful connections and nurturing the spirit of togetherness. It is our privilege to support this iconic event that continues to inspire and unite people from all walks of life,” he said.
Joining this event are renowned performers such as the HSO Band from Eschweiler, the “Party-Schlager” star Peter Wackel, and the much-anticipated Namibian debut of “Die Höhner” from Cologne, Germany.
“The lineup of events is nothing short of spectacular, with highlights including the glamorous Prinzenball on 4 April, the Prunksitzung on 5 April, the colourful Umzug (street procession) and WIKA Bierfest on 6 April, and the delightful Kinderkarneval - KiKaWi - on 7 April. Each event promises a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, and laughter,” WIKA President, Holger Mentzel, said.
