German Weeks set to start on Saturday
The German Embassy in Windhoek will host German Weeks in Namibia from 13 to 19 September.Events open to the public include the #spotthebuzz competition, which runs from 15 September until 10 October. To enter, simply take a picture or selfie of the bus when you spot it at any of the events, follow the German Embassy on Facebook or Instagram, and post your photo with the tag #germanbuzz. Small prizes are up for grabs, with winners randomly selected from all entries.
Another highlight is the scholar exchange themed “Defining a Modern-Day Workforce”, organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. It will take place on 17 September from 14:00 to 16:30 at 223 Independence Avenue. RSVP by 12 September at [email protected]. This hybrid public dialogue aims to bring together Namibian and German KAS Scholars and Namibian secondary school learners to share their perspectives on what constitutes a modern workforce, exploring socio-political and economic challenges from both lower-middle-income and upper-income country contexts.
Also on 17 September, the film Zwei zu Eins (Two to One) will be screened at Ster Kinekor, Maerua Mall, at 19:00. Directed by Natja Brunckhorst, the comedy is based on true events and stars Sandra Hüller, Max Riemelt, and Ronald Zehrfeld as friends who discover millions of East German marks shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall and attempt to exchange them for West German marks. The film premiered at the Munich Film Festival in June 2024 and was released in German cinemas in July 2024. It will be shown with English subtitles.
The week concludes with a Heritage Day celebration on 19 September from 09:00 to 12:00 at the UNAM Y-Block. The event seeks to honour the rich traditions and history that form part of the university community.
