Youth extravaganza, beauty pageant this weekend

Youth Vibez Events & Festivals Namibia host a music festival and a beauty pageant on Saturday, where, amongst others, 15 upcoming models will vie for the Miss Youth Vibez 2023 title.
During the event, Miss Youth Vibez 2022 Charlothe Namwandi, a second-year student at the University of Management, will crown her successor.
According to the founder of Youth Vibez Events Mathew Petrus, “Namibia has many talented young people who live in the informal settlements who lack opportunities, recognition, exposure and financial support which drives them to crime and alcohol and drug abuse which destroys their lives.
“Our goal is to prepare our young models to compete in other major beauty pageants across the country and potentially represent our nation abroad.”
He added that this year they made the decision to combine the beauty pageant with the Youth Vibez Music Festival which includes local artists and DJs, along with Issa Babby Girl, a South African performer, as special guest.
Local DJs on the line-up include DJ Rose, DJ Kandy, DJ Thexa, and DJ Act. The programme also includes amazing entertainment from “Barcadi & Sabi” hit maker Chester Houseprince, as well as up-and-coming local artists like YMZ, Mareo, Pendrick, Wesly Moi Lewe, Namlive, Fine Boys Association, and Ki4r.
The event is made possible by organisations that collaborate closely with community development projects in informal settlements, such as the Comrades Association, NyanyulizeD Entertainment, Front Page Media Investment cc, Youth Vibez Events & Festivals Namibia and Miranas Modelling Agency.
The festival starts at 18:00 on Saturday and takes place at the Independence Arena in Katutura. Tickets are N$80 in advance for general admission and N$100 at the gates.
