Nkgopolang Knowledge Serogwe is a legal compliance advisor. His principal duties are to provide legal services to line management through legal compliance advice, litigation prevention strategies, and legal risk assessment in order to prevent public liability or contractual claims and preserve the statutory integrity of BIPA.

A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or an equivalent qualification is needed to become a legal advisor; however, since the market demands excellence, a postgraduate qualification in law or admission to the High Court of Namibia would be of the essence as it gives you an advantage. The legal profession is meant to be a respectable profession, so a high emphasis is placed on one’s integrity. A legal advisor should always maintain high ethical standards to manage conflicts of interest.

Furthermore, working as a legal advisor entails more than just understanding the law; it involves the proficiency to effectively manage a legal matter from start to finish. In addition, it requires the capability to grasp the challenges that clients or institutions are facing and the aptitude to generate solutions to address them. Hence, excellent communication, research, and writing skills will prove to be valuable assets. Another essential attribute is emotional intelligence, which is crucial due to the consistent human interactions inherent in the role. This quality assists legal advisors in maintaining rationality and objectivity at all times, enabling them to make sound judgement calls.
