African Stars coach praises players
African Stars coach Angus Elemu has sang praises towards his players for a solid performance against Khomas Nampol FC on Saturday night at the Independence Stadium.
The champions scored a goal in each half to beat the Police team as rain poured over the capital city.
The Stars coach was impressed with the resilience the players showed during a match they needed to win in order to position themselves strongly against the other premier league title hopefuls.
“First, we thank the lord almighty for this victory and the players for doing what they can do in such an important match.
“As the champions, I always tell the players to go on the pitch and play like champions.
“I am happy with the outcome of today because we played against a good team too,” Elemu said.
African Stars finished Saturday’s round on 32 points, having played 16 matches so far.
The champions have won nine matches and lost only two so far this season.
The Katutura giants have scored 19 goals, while conceding seven in what many has been a fairly tight season.
Elemu said his team will not be fazed by what other teams are doing, but will continue to work for the maximum points in every game they play.
“I do not think we have to worry about the rest of the teams but we do have to focus on what we are doing as a team.
“The aim is to get maximum points in every match we play and that is what we hope to achieve going forward,” Elemu reiterated.
Wendell Rudath scored a pile driver for Stars 27 minutes in the first half, while Paulus Aludhilu cemented the victory slotting home from close range after 72 minutes.
Nampol disappointed
Khomas Nampol FC coach Fortune Eichab expressed disappointment, following his team’s defeat.
The Police team created good chances in the first half, hitting the woodwork and pressing the champions.
Their efforts were however not rewarded with a goal, leading to the frustration of the coach.
“The rain did not make it easy for us to play and this was a big factor as far as the results are concerned.
“We had numerous chances in the first half, but they did not just go in and that cost us the game.
“We also slept on conceding the first goal and that is disappointing,” Eichab said.
Khomas Nampol vows to regroup and continue fighting for a better position on the log.
“There are 45 points to play for and we will regroup in order to win our next matches. The team did play well even if we lost and we can always build on that going forward,” Eichab noted.
