Chula Chula not carried away
Leading the league and oozing with confidence, Eeshoke Chula Chula refuse to get carried away.
The club have played down any title aspirations following their recent form in the Namibia Premier League.
The northern giants completed a perfect weekend, collecting six points in the process.
On Saturday, they defeated Julinho Athletics 3–2, before beating Rundu Chiefs 1–0 on Sunday.
The results meant that John Sikerete’s men concluded the weekend at the top of the table with 30 points.
Coach Sikerete has, however, played down any title ambitions so far.
“We are leading the table, but things can change in a weekend because the teams are very close to each other.
“Yes, we are doing well and in a good position at the top, but dreaming about the title right now would be wild.
“I can, however, say that I am happy with the outcome of the weekend,” Sikerete said.
Chula Chula have so far played 15 matches, winning nine of them.
The northern club have dropped points on three occasions, while also losing three matches this season.
Sikerete’s charges have scored an impressive 20 goals while conceding only 10.
“I must say that our attacking form has been good, but we also need to avoid conceding goals.
“The good thing about the weekend was that we kept a clean sheet on Sunday, and we hope to build on that,” Sikerete noted.
African Stars are in second place following their 1–0 win over Tigers on Sunday.
The defending champions are just one point behind their rivals.
Stars have won eight of their 15 Premier League matches, while losing only two and dropping points on five occasions.
Mighty Gunners, who started the weekend at the top of the table, have dropped to third.
The men in uniform lost 1–0 to Ongos FC on Sunday as they finished the weekend on 27 points.
Ongos FC climbed to fourth place following their remarkable showing this past weekend.
On Sunday, Ronnie Kanalelo’s men proved that they might just have a say in the title race after their statement win over Gunners.
They are now just six points behind leaders Chula Chula.
Kanalelo also prefers to remain grounded for now.
“Well, getting six points in a weekend is always good for a coach and the team.
“We have to build on these performances and show steady improvement as the season progresses.
“The teams above us are not so far away, and neither are the teams below us,” Kanalelo said.
