Details emerge over Moeti’s shift
Internal misunderstandings and mounting pressure on former Namibia Football Association (NFA) acting secretary-general Cassius Moeti are alleged to have led to his shift from the position.
This comes after the NFA announced the appointment of Mabos Vries as acting secretary-general of the football association, effective 1 February.
Some sources within the NFA have alleged that Moeti chose to make the move and was not forced by anyone to return to his former office in the marketing and communications department.
It is alleged that Moeti and the NFA hierarchy had several disagreements over the way things were done.
“It is confidential information, but I understand that there were some misunderstandings between the former SG and the powers that control the association.
“It is for this reason that Moeti decided to move back to his former position in the marketing and communications department,” a source said.
The source further revealed that Moeti was allegedly unhappy in the position, leading to his departure from the acting post.
“Some people may think that the NFA deliberately moved Moeti back to his position, but that was not the case.
“There is more to it than what is being speculated in football circles at the moment,” the source added.
Moeti assumed the role in March 2025 following the passing of former secretary-general Charles Siyauya.
The NFA recently advertised the lucrative position in a bid to appoint a permanent secretary-general since Siyauya’s death.
Moeti’s decision to step down came just days after applications for the position closed, prompting suspicion over his immediate shift.
In response to the allegations, Moeti declined to provide further details on his move, stating that it was a personal decision.
“It was completely voluntary and a personal decision I chose to make, and there is nothing else behind it,” Moeti briefly told Sport Wrap.
During his tenure as acting secretary-general, Moeti was involved in key negotiations that led to the sponsorship of the Women’s Super League and the Men’s Premier League.
A journalist by training, Moeti previously served as chairman of Black Africa before leaving the role in 2020.
In late 2025, Moeti spearheaded efforts for the NFA to acquire ownership of the technical center from the City of Windhoek.
Moeti remains committed to the association in the role he previously served.
Internal matter
Namibia Football Association (NFA) president Robert Shimooshili played down the allegations, stating that Moeti’s move was a personal and internal matter.
The president maintained that Moeti was not forced to step down from his position, contrary to speculation.
“I believe that this is an internal matter, and it was just announced because of the public’s interest.
“All I can say is that Moeti was not forced to resign from the acting position, and it was a mutual agreement that he return to the marketing and communications department.
“As we also know, Isack Hamata has left the position, and Moeti is a valuable addition in his former role,” Shimooshili said.
League Director position
The Namibia Football Association will, in the meantime, seek to appoint a league director to replace Vries, who was appointed acting secretary-general.
