Khomas Nampol troubles grow deeper
Khomas Nampol FC supporters are demanding answers from the club’s hierarchy over several issues which have recently hampered the team's progress in the Namibia Premier Football League.
The police team, that remarkably finished third in its 2024-2025 debut season, finds itself caught between a rock and a hard place.
The team’s problems have not only affected the team performance, but the supporters have also voiced their concerns over the state of affairs.
Fans are demanding for answers concerning the suspension of head coach Fortune Eichab about a fortnight ago, as well as the appointment of former Civics coach Jeremy Zimmer.
A source who chose remain anonymous revealed to this publication that the fans are becoming restless.
“Good morning, I understand Nampol players will stop training if the management doesn't tell them the reason why Coach Fortune was suspended and if he is not reinstated.
“We are losing game after game without our coach and father figure.
“Since the new CEO joined the club, things are going backwards. Even the supporters wrote a letter to ask for the reason why the coach was removed, and the Exco is not answering us,” the source said.
It is alleged that the football fans have contemplated writing to the Inspector General of the Namibian Police Joseph Shikongo in search of inventions.
“Supporters will now write a letter to Inspector General Shikongo to ask for intervention, or to take next steps.”
Silas Shipandeni, chairperson of the supporters club, confirmed to Sport Wrap that tension is indeed brewing at the football club.
He agrees that fans were shocked by the sudden announcement of a new coach, while no answers were given about the previous incumbent.
“As we speak, I am coming from a workshop and just heard the news about the appointment of the new coach.
“We already wrote a letter to the management and they said they will respond to us at a later stage, but we just found out about a new coach.
“We are now engaging the members and set to convene a meeting concerning the situation,” Shipandeni said.
Club chairperson Nikanor Ashipala denied the allegations of secrecy, stating that fans were informed about the club's recent decisions.
“The management sort out to make changes to the technical team who will take care of the football club until the end of the season.
“Supporters have been informed about the decisions taken by the club,” Ashipala said.
Poor form
Khomas Nampol has lost four matches in just the last two weekends, against Tigers, Young African, Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters.
They are currently just five points above the relegation zone, signaling a club in dire need of rejuvenation.
The team sits 11th on the log, with 28 points from 23 matches. Nampol drew on four occasions, with eight wins, but their 11 losses so far are already four more than in the entire 2024-25 league season.
Last season the team managed to finish third after collecting 51 points in 30 matches (14 wins, seven draws).
