Young Brazilians Football Club are eager to return to the Premier League following an impressive season in the first division.

The club, which was relegated last season, is currently in second position on the Southern Stream First Division log with only a handful of matches left to play.

The team from the south is trailing leaders Mariental FC, who continue to set the pace at the top of the table.

Young Brazilians coach Lionel Afrikaner has made the club’s ambitions clear ahead of the final stretch of the campaign.

“This has been a very competitive season and one can tell that many football clubs want to gain promotion.

“The table is very tight at the top, but we are focusing on making sure that we get the job done.

“The players have been impressive so far and we will just continue pushing, hoping to topple the leaders,” Afrikaner said.

Young Brazilians have played 19 matches in a league consisting of 12 clubs.

They have won 11 matches, drawn four, and lost four.

The Karasburg-based side has scored 26 goals while conceding 13 this season.

Afrikaner’s men will also be wary of Try Again FC, who are just two points behind them in third place.

“It has reached a stage where three points are crucial because of how tight it is at the top.

“The team above us can slip, and so can we, which makes things very interesting.

“The players and the entire team are aware of what is at stake, and we will therefore try our best to put pressure on the team at the top and the one behind us,” Afrikaner added.

Nicknamed the Dakaza Boys, the club was founded in 2005 and worked its way up to the Premier League.

They were however relegated during the 2024/25 season after finishing 14th.

“I can assure you that we are all hoping for a return to the Premier League.

“It is always good to make an immediate return after relegation because failing to do so increases the pressure.

“As I said, I have full confidence in the players and the staff around me, and we will give our all to regain our place in the Premier League.”

Bottom half battle

The Southern Stream First Division relegation battle also remains intense, with Orlando Pirates FC facing the threat of another drop in division.

The club is currently bottom of the table on 16 points, level with Blue Boys just above them.

As things stand, one of Namibia’s historic football clubs is in danger of dropping to the second division, with only three matches remaining.
