Van Rensburg leads Rossmund medal winners
Tienie van Rensburg produced a consistent round to claim the overall title at Rossmund Golf Club’s Monthly Medal competition in Swakopmund last Saturday.
Playing in near-perfect conditions, van Rensburg returned a winning score of 68 nett to top a competitive field of 38 golfers across all divisions in the event sponsored by Pescanova (Novanam).
In the A Division, Steven Johns carded 70 nett to take top honours, while Henry Louw won the B Division on 72 nett. Achmet Abrahams secured the C Division title with 75 nett.
Mariena Ludwig led the ladies’ division on 76 nett, with Alex Stafford matching that score to top the junior category.
No two clubs were recorded on the day, with funds from the category directed towards the club’s Junior Development Fund.
Abrahams edges Sages contest
Sunday’s Sages competition, sponsored by Bay Auctioneers, saw Achmet Abrahams emerge as the overall winner after a tightly contested round.
Abrahams carded 36 points to win on count-out ahead of Heidi van Niekerk, while Franz Schuster, John Horne and Gaby Adams shared third place on 35 points.
Nearest-to-the-pin honours went to Abrahams on hole four, van Rensburg on hole seven, George Murasiki on hole 12 and Schuster on hole 16.
Despite favourable playing conditions, no two clubs were recorded during the round.
Community focus
The event also served as a platform to introduce Sanet de Waal of the Cancer Association of Namibia, the beneficiary of the Sages’ 2025 community donation of N$20 000.
The funds will contribute towards equipment for a new end-of-life hospice set to open in Swakopmund.
