News from council chambers

The Municipal Council of Windhoek held its ordinary council meeting last Thursday, approving several initiatives aimed at improving public safety, health and community engagement.
• Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement with Kosmos 94.1 to formalise a partnership with the Windhoek City Police. The collaboration will continue the COPPS 94.1 reality show, a weekly live programme promoting community and road safety, crime prevention, and public trust in law enforcement. The show airs every Friday night, giving residents real-time insights into policing activities.
CCTV cameras worth N$500 000 were donated to council by FNB Namibia. The equipment will be deployed at identified crime hotspots to strengthen urban safety, support faster police response, and aid evidence-based investigations. Furthermore, the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund will donate CCTV cameras and accessories worth near N$141 000 to the Windhoek City Police. The cameras will be installed at accident-prone areas and intersections to improve traffic monitoring, reduce road accidents, and enhance pedestrian safety.
• Finally, in a move to promote community wellness, the council granted the Young Ones Football Club permission to use the Khomasdal Community Hall for its Walking Football 4 Health Namibia (WF4HN) project. The programme encourages men aged 50+ and women aged 40+ to engage in low-impact physical activity, benefiting both physical fitness and mental well-being.
