Gymnasts vie for national team selection
The Namibian Gymnastics Federation (NGF) staged the rhythmic section’s national team trials for junior and senior gymnasts in Walvis Bay last weekend.
Athletes competed for places on the national team ahead of the African Championships scheduled for April in South Africa.
Four junior and four senior gymnasts performed routines before judges representing Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, Windhoek Rhythmic Club, Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club and Infinity Gymnastics Club.
The juniors, aged 14 to 15, and seniors, aged 16 and above, competed in their respective categories for national selection.
According to rhythmic section coordinator Britt Adonis-Byl, the trial results will determine team selections for the first six months of the year.
In the senior category, Emilia Ekandjo, Kayla Duchaine and Joy Kabooy met the requirements for provisional national team selection.
“Reaching this level reflects consistent preparation and commitment,” said Adonis-Byl.
She added that further announcements will be made regarding the competitions at which the selected gymnasts will represent Namibia in the coming months.
